Aronson & Company Forms Deltek Outsourcing Services Group

Rockville, MD, April 24, 2006/PRNewswire/ -- Aronson & Company (A&C), a nationally ranked top 50 accounting and consulting firm, recently announced the formation of their Deltek Outsourcing Services Group, created to address the growing back office needs of the Metro area’s huge government contracting community, numbering in the thousands.

"A&C recognizes the need for better accounting operations management among federal contractors, but we also know that there are many companies that simply don’t have the specialized accounting staff to handle these tasks," remarked Lisa J. Cines, CPA, Managing Officer, Aronson & Company.

Internal accounting departments cost most government contractors upwards of $100K-$500K a year, depending on size. Regulatory burdens, technology requirements, and staff costs combine to create a huge financial burden and operations that often detract from accomplishing other important business goals. As an Alliance Partner, Aronson & Company has united their professional accounting services with the power of Deltek GCS Premier, the leading software package for government contractors, routinely cutting their clients’ back office operating costs in half.

Aronson & Company’s Deltek Outsourcing Group uses their extensive experience and specialized expertise to help companies address the challenges they face in today’s competitive government contracting market. Whether they are a prime contractor or subcontractor, a small start-up, an established government contractor, a company experiencing the pain of downsizing, or even just temporarily short-staffed, A&C supports their internal accounting personnel with skilled professional consultants who know their way around the government contracting business.

Stephen T. Swales, CPA, Officer in charge of the Deltek Outsourcing Services Group commented further, "We are very pleased to be able to offer government contractors a cost effective solution that allows them to focus on the real business at hand rather than their back office. Our services effectively let small to mid-sized companies compete much the same way as the really big players in government contracting, without the enormous costs of an internal accounting department."

Our services effectively let small to mid-sized companies compete much the same way as the really big players in government contracting, without the enormous costs of an internal accounting department."

Deltek GCS Premier software is specifically designed to conform to the stringent regulations stipulated by the federal government, making necessary evils like DCAA compliance, indirect rate structuring, and incurred cost submissions incredibly simple to navigate and manage.

The new Deltek Outsourcing Group is part of A&C’s Government and Technology Services Group which has been meeting and exceeding the expectations of government contractors for over 20 years.

ReportNet - First impressions

With Impromptu support being discontinued in 2010, I have started evaluating ReportNet as the long term replacement solution. My initial fear that the web based application would be slow turned out to be ill founded. I have always been a little skeptical of web based applications because they fail to take advantage of the very powerful desktop processors that are now pervasive in any enterprise. The Report Studio interface was a pleasant surprise because it is very responsive and full featured.

The ease of scheduling reports has made it trivial to implement some automated "detect" controls for erroneous data entry. There is however a fairly steep learning curve. I had to spend time searching for functionality such as advanced filters, footer and header management etc. In the next few weeks I will put together a table to help long term Impromtpu users locate corresponding functionality in Report Studio menus.

Cognos 8 gaining traction

Costpoint users are familiar with Impromptu, a fast and easy WYSIWYG (mostly) report writing tool. The web based version of Impromptu has evolved from Impromptu for the Web to Upfront to ReportNet. At the user conference this year, Deltek announced that the latest version with be Cognos 8 and that this will be the new name for ReportNet. Impromptu will be supported until the year 2010. Cognos released their quarterly results on March 30th of this year and announced two interesting facts:
# Fourth quarter license revenue of $117.9 million, up 56 percent from the third quarter
# Cognos 8 license revenue of $55.5 million in the fourth quarter

Both of these bode well for companies using Costpoint. In a highly competitive business intelligence vendor market, Cognos has had a sharp revenue increase and close to 50% of their revenue is from their latest version. They also appear to have won some very large accounts with the new verion. This should make it easier to find help and consulting for the new version in the long term.

Deltek - your hybrid diesel technology

"Deltek" was a fairly unique name. A web search almost always yielded pages related to the software company that brings us Costpoint. That changed a few months ago when Carrier Corporation released a new Deltek. This time, Deltek is a hybrid diesel electric cooling system: Please click on "Read the rest of this article!" link below.

Saying that the product offered higher reliability, easier maintenance and significantly lower lifecycle costs than ever before, Carrier Transcold introduced Deltek hybrid diesel technology late in October.

“The high reliability and reduced maintenance needs of Deltek technology will result in better equipment utilization and greater operational efficiency for the entire cold chain,” Ignacio Aguerrevere, director of marketing and product development, Truck/Trailer/Rail Americas for Carrier Transicold, said.

Aguerrevere said patented Deltek technology was a radical departure from the conventional mechanical technology that has defined transport refrigeration systems for more than 50 years. “Through expanded use of electronics and maintenance-free electrical components, it offers a streamlined design that does away with most serviceable mechanical parts, such as belts and clutches, and it greatly reduces the refrigerant charge compared to conventional systems,” he said.

Carrier appears to have trademarked the name. While trademarks are specific to each industry, it would appear that Carrier constantly uses the phrase 'Deltek technology' thus making it easy to be misunderstood for Deltek the technology company. That is until you reach the part about diesel and refrigeration!

EDS potentially a Deltek partner?

Tech giant EDS (Electronic Data Systems Corp.) has offered to buy a 52% stake in Bangalore, India based software services firm MphasiS. What does this mean for Deltek? Long term users will remember that the Dallas user conference had representatives from MphasiS demonstrating the then hot! hot! hot! web based Costpoint 4i.

MphasiS was the development partner that created the original Costpoint Web. It is not clear how much of Smart Business Applications was created by MphasiS or what role they now play. A Google search provides interesting historical snippets: Please click on "Read the rest of this article!" link below.

The beta release of Deltek Costpoint 5 which initially incorporated approximately 170 enhancements throughout the software, is a fully integrated ERP solution developed specifically for complex, medium to large-sized project-based businesses... The beta release followed what was tauted as the next generation of Internet-driven back office automation solutions. Deltek Costpoint 4i for the Web, provided an n-tiered, scalable, flexible, and solid Java-based thin client architecture. Deltek Costpoint 4i was never officially released because during development it became apparent that a better alternative to fully web-enable Deltek Costpoint was to web-develop the entire software at one time using Mphasis as the on-site/off-shore development partner. The fully web-based Deltek Costpoint version is expected in general release in 2004 and is now referred to as The Next Generation of Costpoint (NGC), or Deltek Costpoint Version 6.
Will the EDS resources further improve Smart Business Applications? Time will tell...
